Life Aesthetics of Tea Drinking in the Late Ming Dynasty Based on Passing the Night with Bisqueware by Zhang Dai
Passing the Night with Bisqueware,composed by Zhang Dai,illustrates the tea drinking culture among the literati in the late Ming dynasty,reflecting the life aesthetics of the period.This paper analyzes the poem and compares it with the appreciation of tea drinking culture by celebrities and former sages of the Ming dynasty and other works by Zhang Dai.The attention to the tea drinking environment,the control of the heat for brewing tea,the pursuit of exquisite tea sets,and the insight into the source and quality of water are examined to depict the personality experience of spirituality in a tea drinker's state of mind.The entire tea appreciation process denotes a feast of art,embodying the life aesthetics of tea drinking activities in the late Ming dynasty.
