Cui Wang,a Hanlin academician in the reign of the Emperor Zhao of Tang, was promoted to be Secretary-General before leaving the Academy. His deeds in the Hanlin Academy have been studied and discussed in Cen Zhongmian's Two Supplements of the Hanlin Academy in Tang Dynasty and Fu Xuancong's Biography of Hanlin Academicians in Tang Dynasty-Late Tang Volume. However, due to the lack of documentation, the time of Cui Wang's entering and leaving the Academy, and the changes of official posts during that period are still questionable. Now according to the newly-unearthed epigraph,Cui Cheng's The Epitaph and Preface of Cui Wang, the Passed Adviser to the Heir Apparent in Tang Dynasty,we can confirm that Cui Wang was accepted into the Academy to be a Hanlin academician as the director of the Bureau of Military of War in the second year of Dashun Reign.Subsequently he was promoted to be the edict drafter and the academician recipient of edicts, and served successively as the secretariat drafter, the vice director of the ministry of revenue, the right aide to the imperial secretary and the vice director of the ministry of war.He left the Academy in October of the second year of Jingfu Reign. It lasted for about three years when he worked in the Hanlin Academy. In addition, according to the unearthed stone carvings,we can also confirm Cui Wang's family background, dates of birth and death, experiences before and after working in the Academy, his literary influence and Cui Cheng's deeds as the epigraph author, etc. These are all argued here as adjuncts.
