Splitting(fragmented)publishing is a gray area of redundant publishing and been overlooked by the publishing industry due to its concealment,difficulty in detection,and lack of actionable standards.This article describes the concept and categories of fragmented publishing,summarizes the research results on fragmented publishing at home and abroad,and clearly points out its harm to scientific communication,publishing resources,and researchers.Using case studies,it explores how to identify fragmented publishing from horizontal and vertical,and puts forward prevention suggestions from policy and specific operational levels.
