Research on the Characteristics of Heavy Metal Changes During the Vermicomposting Process of Urban Sludge in Ordos
With the acceleration of urbanization, the volume of urban sewage treatment and sludge production is continuously increasing. The presence of heavy metals in sludge poses potential risks to the environment and human health. This study takes the sludge from the sewage treatment plant in Ordos as the research object to explore the changes in nutrient elements and the characteristics of heavy metal content changes during the process of urban sludge vermicomposting. The results show that through vermicomposting technology, the organic matter in urban sludge in cold areas rapidly decreases, and the content of mercury and arsenic in heavy metals is reduced, but the reduction is small;while the reduction of lead and chromium is significant, decreasing by 75.6%and 78.7%respectively.Vermicomposting technology improves the physicochemical prop-erties of sludge and enhances the immobilization efficiency of heavy metals in sludge.Vermicomposting technology is an ef-fective method for sludge treatment and resource utilization.By adopting reasonable composting processes and additive mate-rials,the physicochemical properties of sludge can be significantly improved, its application value as organic fertilizer can be enhanced, and its potential environmental risks can be reduced.
