The Construction of Intersubjectivity in the Russian Translation of The Art of War in the Perspective of Meta-discourse—Taking Conrad's Translation as an Example
The Art of War,known as"the holy book of military science"has been translated and dis-seminated in Russia for more than 200 years. The translation of canonical books is a dialogue among three subjects:the author, the translator and the reader,in different times and different places. So in the process of canonical books translation, the translator should have the awareness of intersubjectivity.Me-ta-discourse is the main symbolic resource for analysing and evaluating the translator's intersubjectivity construction,in which the translator's efforts to establish a connection with the readers,to negotiate the cognitive positions at different levels and to convey the attitudes to the readers are made visible in the meta-discourse mode.By analysing the use of meta-discourse markers in the Conrad's translation of The Art of War,the author argues that Conrad coordinates the multiple intersubjective relations of the crea-ting subject, the transmitting subject and the receiving subject in his translation of The Art of War,con-structing a harmonious intersubjectivity.
