Analysis of Various Conflicting Military Thoughts in the Current Version of Military Strategy and Training of Huainanzi—Simultaneously Proofing the Widespread Phenomenon of Annotations Being Inserted into the Main Text in the Current Version of Huainanzi
There are various clear conflicting military thoughts in the current version of Military Strategy and Training of Huainanzi,involving the understanding of the origin of war,the understand-ing of the basis of war,the judgment of the conditions for winning against the enemy and the summary of the principles of commanding generals.The reason for this phenomenon is that the current version of Huainanzi contains a large number of annotations that may have originated from the Eastern Han Dy-nasty.The commentators have cited various military theories from previous generations to interpret Mil-itary Strategy and Training of Huainanzi besides their own interpretations,resulting in the existence of multiple conflicting military thoughts in the current version of Military Strategy and Training of Huainanzi.At the same time,the text is also disorganized and difficult to read.Clarifying these inter-twined and conflicting military thoughts and identifying their theoretical origins and era of emergence can help enrich the details of the development of ancient Chinese military theory and provide some evidences for the widespread phenomenon of annotations being inserted into the main text of the current version of Huainanzi.
