The provisions of the Civil Aviation Law and other laws and regulations on the transporta-tion of pets by air are not yet perfect,which leads to difficulties in accountability and a large number of disputes.There is still controversy in judicial practice regarding the responsibilities that airlines should bear when transporting pets and whether shippers can receive compensation in the event of pet death.Based on the legislative purpose of the Civil Aviation Law and the Civil Code on the carrier's liability,this paper clarifies the carrier's responsibility in the process of transporting pets and determines the legal nature of pets and the amount and scope of compensation that pet owners can obtain,which can help bet-ter resolve such kinds of disputes.
