Study on the Current Status of Conservation and Renewal of Buildings in Former Concession Area of Hankow-Taking Wuhan Art Museum as an Example
Former Concession Area of Hankow in Wuhan City has preserved many European style architectures in the last century, most of which have been put into modern use after renovation. This paper takes Wuhan Art Museum as an example, introduces its facade decorative style and spatial layout, and analyzes the modernization and transformation of the original building's internal space. The conclusions are as follows:(1)The main facade of Wuhan Art Museum has a unique shape and distinctive style.(2)The building's interior is clearly segregated between functional blocks, which strengthens the visitor-orientation but sacrifices the interest of the exhibition space.(3)There are deficiencies in the design of the internal tour flow, which reduce the utilization of the atrium as an open space.(4)The interior of the building is relatively well equipped in terms of accessibility. This paper finally distills insights of old building renovation and renewal from the case study, hoping to provide reference for the conservation and development of historic buildings in the former concession area.
