Objective Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease of periodontal supporting tissues, which can lead to progressive destruction of periodontal supporting tissues, and the occurrence and development of periodontitis are related to the hypoxic periodontal microenvironment.Hypoxia inducible factor(HIF)is a transcription factor involved in the regulation of im-mune response. The change of its expression level can affect the function of various cells in the body and eventually lead to the occurrence of diseases. The hypoxic environment caused by periodontitis is closely related to the hypoxia-inducible factor path-way.This article summarizes the role of hypoxia-inducible factor in periodontal inflammation and regeneration,in order to provide new ideas for clinical treatment of periodontitis and other diseases in the future.
