Research progress on Medicago sativa genetic engineering
Forage gene engineering is one of the areas of research attracting both national and international attention recently. As "the king of forages", M. sativa has longest history of cultivation, biggest distribution area, and most extensive research world wide. In this paper, the main aspects in genetic transformation of M. sativa are reviewed in detail in terms of biotic, abiotic, and quality improvement. Some emergent questions are presented and discussed on the basis of comprehensive analysis in M. sativa genetic engineering.
