The Effect of Aggregate Geometries on the Skid Resistance of Micro-surfacing
In this paper, the effect of aggregate geometries on the skid resistance of micro-surfacing is investigated.Firstly, three different sources of aggregates are selected and their geometries are characterized by using digital image technology, and then their skid resistance is tested by using a laser texture scanner, pendulum tribometer, and wet wheel abrasion machine. The results showed that the more complex the geometry of the aggregate, the better the slid resistance of the micro-surfing,and the skid resistance of the steel slag micro-surfing was significantly higher than that of other types of micro-surfacing,but it should be treated to eliminate free calcium oxide before using to avoid its volume expansion causing the reduction of structural stability.
