Current Situation,Existing Problems,and Suggested Strategies of Science Popularization of Academic Journals—Taking Medical Academic Journals as Examples
This article aims to comprehend the current situation and existing problems of science popularization carried out by acacemic journals and proposes feasible strategies and measures to strengthen the science popularization responsibilities of academic journals,thereby aiding the national science popularization strategy.Taking medical academic journals as examples,through literature research and questionnaire survey,it is found that the domestic medical academic journals primarily exhibit the following characteristics regarding science popularization:a relatively low number of journals engaging in science popularization with most commencing only in the recent years;limited pathways for conducting science populatization work,resulting in a restricted audience reach;diverse subjects for creating popular science works companied by an absence of standardized approval processes.The paper further analyzes deficiencies within medical academic journals'efforts conducting science popularization work,which include weak content creation capabilities,editors'lack of enthusiasm for science popularization work,and limited scope for dissemination.Consequently,It is proposed to establish a multidisciplinary and multidimensional platform for producing and collaborating science populatization content among medical academic journals,construct collaborative communication channels encompassing integrated journal platforms,new media outlets,and mass media platforms,as well as improve and perfect the emergency response mechanism of medical academic journals in disseminating health knowledge and responsing to public health events.This will enable medical academic journals to become one of the main forces in promoting the public's medical science literacy.
