Numerical Simulation of Seismic Performance of Asymmetric Strengthened and Dog Bone Weakened Steel Frame Joints
To effectively prevent brittle failure at beam column joints and improve the seismic performance of the joints,an asymmetric strengthened and dog bone weakened steel frame joint is proposed.Taking the edge beam column joints as example,ABAQUS finite element software is used to compare and analyze the seismic performance of four joint models, including asymmetric strengthened and dog bone weakened joints, asymmetric strengthened joints, dog bone weakened joints, and ordinary joints. The differences in the failure mode, hysteresis curve, skeleton curve, ductility, energy dissipation capacity, and stiffness degrada-tion of the joints are studied. It is indicated in the research that asymmetric strengthened and dog bone weakened joints can effectively achieve plastic hinge outward displacement, prevent brittle failure of joints, and not only improve the energy dissipation and ductility of joints, but also maintain good bearing capacity.
