Widely Tunable Narrow Linewidth Tm:YAP Pulse Laser with Two F-P Etalons
A Tm:YAP pulsed laser with wide tuning, narrow linewidth, and high re-frequency was designed. Three tangential-axis oriented Tm:YAP crystals were used as the gain medium, and the lasers were continuously tuned at wave-lengths of 49 nm,44 nm,and 51 nm by means of 0.5 mm YAG F-P standards and 0.025 mm fused-silica F-P standards, which were specified as 1951~2000 nm,1932~1976 nm,and 1943~1944 nm,respectively. Meanwhile, the measured laser linewidths were all around 0.4 nm. The pulsed laser outputs with maximum average power of 5.08 W,6.29 W,and 4.83 W were achieved under the acousto-optic tuning Q 10 kHz pulse repetition frequency, respectively. Comparison reveals that the b-axis Tm:YAP laser has the largest average power, with a measured pulse width of 65.7 ns at the maximum average power, and a beam quality factor M2 of 1.84 in the x-direction and 1.93 in the y-direction. The results indicate that the b-axis Tm:YAP crystals have the potential for broadly-tuned,narrow linewidths, high power, and high-energy lasers.
