Yelü Longqing and the Political Situation in the Middle Period of the Liao Dynasty
Yelü Longqing was the second son of Emperor Jingzong of Liao and the younger brother of Emperor Shengzong of Liao.He was one of the most important royal relatives in the middle period of Liao Dynasty.He served as a garrison in Nanjing for nineteen years,sta-bilizing the southern border of the Liao Dynasty and laying the foundation for victory of the War between Liao dynasty and Song dynasty.After the signing of the Chanyuan Alliance,he promoted border trade between the Liao dynasty and Song dynasties,promoting economic exchanges between them.Under the favor of Empress Dowager Chengtian,he developed a cunning personality,posing a threat to the throne of Emperor Shengzong of Liao.However,Emperor Shengzong of Liao did not intensify his conflict with Yelü Longqing,maintaining the political stability of the middle period of the Liao Dynasty.
