Driven by the trend of Chinoiserie in the Taisho Period, Satoharuo went to China in 1920, wrote Nanpokiko after an extensive tour of southern China. He was resentful and looked down upon most things he experienced in China, but at the same time, he was obsessed with views there. In this book, the description of Chinese people and views gives a clear glimpse of his impression of China and the change of the Japanese literati' opinion on other countries at that time.
