As a key means of this strategy, translation of those operas has promoted cultural exchanges between China and the rest of the world, helped to shape a positive and healthy national image, and enhanced the soft power of Chinese culture. To a large extent, the translator' s value orientation determines the effectiveness of the overseas dissemination of Chinese traditional opera. Famous Chinese Plays is one of the most influential translations of Chinese traditional opera in the 20th century.
