Analysis on the Characteristics of Genealogy in Jiangsu in the Late Qing Dynasty and Early Republic of China
In the turbulent social environment of the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China ,the compilation of family genealogies became an important way for some families to inherit blood relationships and family culture. Jiangsu region is one of the areas with the most intensive compilation of family genealogies ,and has made beneficial supplements in many aspects of compiling family genealogies. The family genealogies of the Wu family in Yangzhou,the Lv family in Yixing,and the Qin family in Xishan all emphasize the completeness of the system ,attach importance to family rules and regulations,and enrich the recording of female family members. These characteristics are closely related to the political environment,economic foundation, and regional culture of the time,and are the product of the combination of traditional culture and modernism.
