On the Reports about China of Modern English Newspapers in China:Taking the Reports about Wuxi City During the Anti-Japanese War of North-China Daily News and The Shanghai Times as Examples
As well-known modern English newspapers founded by Westerners in Shanghai,North-China Daily News and The Shanghai Times ranked at the forefront of various foreign newspapers in China in the same period both in terms of quantity and influence.This pa-per takes these two famous English newspapers as the main historical materials,and takes a case study of Wuxi City during the Anti-Jap-anese War,to illustrate how the two English newspapers reported on the city during the Anti-Japanese War.At the same time,the con-tents and stance of the reports about Wuxi in the two newspapers were compared,and this paper points out that North-China Daily News and The Shanghai Times as modern western press in Shanghai,represent the interests of different countries,which has become a key fac-tor affecting the reporting of the two English newspapers in China.
