Articulation is a key concept for Stuart Hall.In the history of the development of cultural studies,Hall realized the transcendence of the culturalist paradigm and the structuralist paradigm with it.Compared with the key importance of this theory in Hall's overall thought process, the attention and discussion of domestic and foreign researchers on it are still insufficient.Existing studies generally follow Hall's description of articulation without further refinement and analysis, which leads to the following dilemma:On the one hand, the importance of"articulation"for Hall and cultural studies in general has been recognized, but on the other hand, its definition and theoretical characteristics can not been expressed in depth. In fact,in Hall's theoretical context, articulation is a subjectless heterogeneous connection subject to multiple determinations.Hall's analysis of social formation and criticism of cultural identity using articulation has led to a theoretical shift in his personal research and even the whole cultural studies.
