Mutual Reference between Chinese and English Literature and Civilization—Focus on the Comparison between"Duiju"in Chinese Literature and"Couplet"in English Literature
Communication and mutual learning can promote the development of different cultures of different countries and civilizations.Over the past century,the comparative study of Chinese and English literature has been carried out from the perspectives of many literary genres and writers,which has broadened our cultural horizons and increased our academic resources.The concept of"duiju"in Chinese literature and"couplet"in English literature is compared,and how they refer each other is discussed.The concepts of"duiju","duiou","duizhang","duilian"are synonyms,either appearing in a work or as a stand-alone text,and the aesthetic principle is symmetry.Neat and exquisite couplets are a major gene and hobby of literary creation in ancient and modern times.In English literature,there is a structure in poetry called"couplet",which is generally translated as"ouju"in Chinese based on the principle of symmetry.The characteristics of Chinese and English literature are different,and"couplet"form is not as neat and exquisite as"duiju".Chinese poets can learn from and"borrow"various styles and syntax of English poetry,but on the contrary,it is more difficult for the general English readers including poets to translate Chinese poetry and"take""duiju"in Chinese poetry.
