The digital economy is a new driving force for high-quality economic development and a new engine for high-quality development of sports industry.Based on the panel data of 20 provinces(municipalities)in China from 2013 to 2020,this paper em-pirically tests the impact and mechanism of digital economy on the high-quality development of sports industry.The impact results show that(1)the digital economy can significantly drive the high-quality development of sports industry,and this conclusion is still valid after the robustness test of instrumental variables and alternative variables;(2)The results show that the digital economy can drive the high-quality development of sports industry through the expansion of Internet applications;(3)Heterogeneity analysis shows that digital economy has a positive driving effect on the high-quality development of sports industry in both eastern and central re-gions.Further analysis shows that the driving effect in eastern region is stronger than that in central region.Based on the above results,the following suggestions are put forward:(1)Continue to deepen digital construction and fully release the development dividends of digital economy;(2)Vigorously promote the application of the Internet to create a scientific and technological environment for the high-quality development of sports industry;(3)Improve the level of technological innovation and open up the way of high-quality de-velopment and innovation of sports industry;(4)Promote the construction of digital economy according to local conditions and elimi-nate the polarization effect of digital economy between regions.
