Data extraction and spatial analysis of historical place names in Xinjiang
In order to reveal the real values of historical place names in the regional historical environ-ment,human activities and human-land relations,and promote the services of historical place names in the Third Xinjiang Scientific Research,this paper takes the historical place names of Xinjiang as the source,it does vectorization registration and information extraction of the maps by collecting maps and relevant documents,and conducts field investigation,builds datasets and thematic maps of place names to show the spatial distribution and evolution characteristics of the place names.The results show that the place name changes in Xinjiang is obviously different and unbalanced in spatial distribution,it is inten-sive in central and western regional of Xinjiang,especially in the southern part of the north slope of Tian-shan Mountain,the western part of Tarim River Basin and the western part of Irtysh River Basin.The in-tensity of place name changes is centered on each administrative region,and gradually decreases along the natural landforms,such as Tianshan Mountain,Kunlun Mountain and Ili Valley.The changes of place names show a certain pattern in spatial distribution.The two ring regions around the Tarim Basin and the Junggar Basin are the hot spots of geographical names change,with more in the west and less in the east.The place names changed greatly on both north and south sides of the Tianshan Mountains,they have a direct relationship with development and construction.
