Evaluation of the Effect of Computer-Aided Design/Computer-Aided Manufacturing Onlay Restorations on Dental Defects
Objective To observe the effect of computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing(CAD/CAM)onlay restorations on dental defects. Methods A total of 100 patients with single posterior tooth defect(PTD)admitted to the Department of Endodontics, the Affiliated Stomatology Hospital of Kunming Medical University from September 2021 to September 2023 were selected. The included 100 teeth were randomly divided into a control group(n=50,traditional press-molding all-ceramic crown restoration)and an experimental group(n=50,CAD/CAM onlay restoration)using a random number table method. The preparation time of a single tooth, occlusal adjusting time, restoration effect, gum condition, chewing function, and complications were compared. Results Compared with the control group, the experimental group exhibited shorter single tooth preparation time and occlusal adjustment time, lower overall incidence of complications, better marginal fit, fixation, gingival health, color matching, appearance, and secondary caries, and higher success rate of restoration fracture(P<0.05).After restoration, the plaque index and gingival index decreased in both groups, and the above indexes in the experimental group were lower than those in the control group(P<0.05).After restoration, the chewing efficiency and bite force increased in both groups, and the above indicators in the experimental group were higher than those in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion CAD/CAM onlay restoration of PTD can shorten the single tooth preparation time and occlusion adjusting time, improve gum condition, enhance restoration effect and chewing function, and have fewer complications.
