Application of Four-in-One Moulded Cardboard Splint Combined with Plaster Plate in the Treatment of Humeral Supracondylar Fracture in Children
Objective To investigate the application effect of external fixation with four-in-one moulded cardboard splint combined with plaster plate in the treatment of humeral supracondylar fracture in children. Methods A total of 120 children with humeral supracondylar fracture in Nanchong Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from May 2021 to May 2023 were included as the study subjects. They were randomly divided into the control group(n=60)and the experimental group(n=60)by random number table method. After manual reduction to anatomical or functional reduction in both groups, the control group received external fixation with traditional tube type plaster, while the experimental group received external fixation with four-in-one moulded cardboard splint combined with plaster plate. The clinical efficacy, carrying angle,Baumann angle,Mayo Elbow Performance Score(MEPS),and incidence of complications were compared between the two groups. Results The excellent and good rate of clinical efficacy in the experimental group was higher than that in the control group(91.67%vs 73.33%)(P<0.05).After 8 weeks of treatment, the improvements of Baumann angle[(78.15±1.88)°vs(80.54±2.03)°]and carrying angle[(15.16±1.66)° vs(12.51±1.26)°]of the affected elbow in the experimental group were better than those in the control group(P<0.05).The MEPS of the affected elbow in the experimental group was(79.14±8.04),which was higher than(72.15±7.46)in the control group(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the total incidence of complications between the two groups(5.00%vs.6.67%)(P>0.05).Conclusion External fixation with four-in-one moulded cardboard splint combined with plaster plate shows excellent effect and stability in the treatment of humeral supracondylar fracture in children, which promotes the recovery of elbow function with good safety.
