Estimation of glacier reserve variation from 2000 to 2020 in Geladandong region
To address the problem of accelerated glacier melting in the Geladandong region since 2000,this paper utilizes SRTM-C DEM,ZY-3 DEM and ICESat-1 laser altimetry data to obtain the glacier elevation changes from 2000 to 2020 using the DEM difference method;glacier area was extracted for the four time periods 2000,2009,2015 and 2020 using the normalized difference snow/ice index from Landsat optical imagery for these four time periods;the volume fraction method was used to obtain more reliable glacier reserves changes in the Geladandong region from 2000 to 2020,and the effects of precipitation and temperature changes on the changes in glacier reserves were analyzed. The results show that from 2000 to 2020,the area of the glacier in Geladandong decreased by 80.449 km2,with a change rate of 9.91%,and an average decrease rate of 4.022 km2/a.The average change in glacier elevation was-0.266 m/a,and the change in glacier reserves was-0.26 Gt/a.From 2000 to 2020,the Geladandong glacier as a whole is in the state of melting, and the region as a whole experiences higher temperatures and lower precipitation, which may be the main reason for the decrease in glacier reserves.
