Effects of Se and Cd level in soil on maize growth and grain Se and Cd contents
To study the effects of Se and Cd level in soil on maize growth and selenium and cadmium content in grains,8 maize varieties with different genetic characteristics were planted in Xintang and Qiaotouba, two places in Enshi,Hubei, where selenium and cadmium content varied. The results showed that:①The soil environment of Xintang has an increasing effect on the plant height, ear position, and 100 grain weight of corn.n.The three indicators of Xintang corn are all higher than those of Qiaotouba.②The soil selenium content has a promoting effect on the selenium content of corn seeds. The selenium content in the tested varieties'seeds is in the order of'Kangnongyu 108'(0.268 2 mg/kg)>'Endan 804'(0.262 3 mg/kg)>'Zhengda 999'(0.212 9 mg/kg)>'Huayu 11'(0.154 5 mg/kg)>'Wanyu168'(0.153 0 mg/kg)>'Heshengyu 718'(0.152 2 mg/kg)>'Shuangyu 919'(0.149 0 mg/kg)>'Xingnongdan 3'(0.114 7mg/kg);③The enrichment of cadmium in soil varies among different corn varieties. The cadmium content in the seeds of the tested varieties is in the order of'Heshengyu 718'(0.070 0 mg/kg)>'Kangnongyu 108'(0.064 7 mg/kg)>'Shuangyu 919'(0.057 0 mg/kg)>'Huayu 11'(0.056 3 mg/kg)>'Xingnongdan 3'(0.054 2 mg/kg)>'Wanyu 168'(0.048 0 mg/kg)>'Zhengda 999'(0.0474 mg/kg)>'EnDan 804'(0.041 0 mg/kg).④ Under two soil backgrounds, there was a highly significant positive correlation between plant height and panicle position.
