Influencing factors and development pattern of source rock from Donga Formation of the Upper Cretaceous in the Northeastern Termit Basin,Niger
The Donga Formation of the Upper Cretaceous is a newly recognized important source rock stratum in Trakes Slope belt of Termit Basin. The research of development mechanism on source rock is of great significance to the understanding of hydrocarbon accumulation rules and breakthrough of exploration in research area.Based on the comprehensive analyses of drilling and logging data,as well as sample analysis data from three exploration Wells in Donga Formation, the influencing factors and development pattern of source rock were studied. The results show that the high-quality source rocks of Donga Formation are well developed in Trakes slope, the abundance of organic matter and the potential of hydrocarbon generation is high, and the organic matter type is mixed type(Type Ⅱ).In the early Late Cretaceous period, the global climate was typical greenhouse, and terrigenous higher plants and aquatic bacteria and algal organisms flourished under the hot to warm and humid climate conditions, which provided sufficient organic matter for sedimentary water. The regional stable continuous thermal subsidence and the global high sea level lead to continuous transgression, and the bottom water body formed weak reduction environment, which provided a favorable zone for the preservation and enrichment of sedimentary organic matter. And the development pattern of high-quality source rocks in the terrigenous and shallow sea pelitic shelf facies of Donga Formation was established.
