To explore the current situation of ecological flow discharge of small hydropower plants,summarize existing problems,and provide guidelines for small hydropower stations to discharge ecological flow in a scientific and standardized manner,it is necessary to assess the ecological flow discharge of small hydropower.We detailed the requirements and methods for assessing the ecological flow releases from small hydropower plants,focusing on key techniques such as defining the assessment scope and period,determining the ecological flow,examining the status of release and release facilities as well as the monitoring and ecological dispatch operation.Furthermore,we made a review on the assessment of ecological flow releases from small hydropower stations in a province and analyzed the main problems and offered countermeasures and suggestions.
