Schistosomiasis Control Effect of Water Conservancy Projects in Typical Irrigation Areas of Hubei Province
Choosing the Yanjiatai Irrigation District in Jiangling County and the Heshunwan Irrigation District in Gong'an County as typical study areas, this paper analyzes the changes in snail populations and schistosomiasis disease before and after the implementation of the water conservancy schistosomiasis control project, primarily focusing on canal hardening and dredging. The effectiveness of these irrigation projects in controlling schistosomiasis is evaluated. The results show that after the implementation of the schistosomiasis control projects, the area with snails within the Yanjiatai Irrigation District decreased by an average of 33.34%,the average density of live snail decreased by 22.01%,and the population infection rate decreased by 100%.In the Heshunwan irrigation area, the average area with snails decreased by 100%,the average density of live snails decreased by 100%,and the population infection rate decreased by 100%.These two typical irrigation projects have a significant effect on reducing the density of live snails and controlling schistosomiasis. The research findings provide practical references for further improving the level of snail control and disease prevention in irrigation areas of schistosomiasis-endemic areas in China, and are of significant importance for supporting the goal of accelerating elimination of schistosomiasis and achieving"healthy China".
