Deriving Floods Using Multiple Unit Hydrograph Methods
This study applies 5 unit hydrograph methods to analyze the"Hunan Province Heavy Rain and Flood Calculation Manual(Revised Edition)"and"Handbook on Stormwater Flood Calculation in Jiangxi Province",and evaluate the applicable situations of these methods. The methods include Clark's unit hydrograph,Nash's instantaneous unit hydrograph,Geomorphologic instantaneous unit hydrograph,SCS dimensionless unit hydrograph, and Snyder's synthetic unit hydrograph. The results show that the Clark's unit hydrograph,Nash's instantaneous unit hydrograph, and Geomorphologic instantaneous unit hydrograph yield similar results.Specifically, the analyzed two manuals use the Nash's instantaneous unit hydrograph, which offers reasonable and moderate results. The SCS dimensionless unit hydrograph has a larger peak value and is suitable for extreme and harsh situations. The Snyder's synthetic unit hydrograph has a relatively flat peak and a long duration, and therefore is suitable for moderate situations.
