Characteristics of Soil Erosion and Water and Soil Conservation in North Hubei Water Resources Allocation Project
North Hubei water resource allocation project is a typical representative in water diversion projects in hilly regions.Terrain disturbance and vegetation destruction caused by the construction of this project will trigger soil erosion, endangering the safety of the project itself and also damaging the local ecological environment. We analyzed the soil erosion patterns, prevention and control mechanisms in construction project using data obtained by continuous observation including rainfall level, disturbed surface area and soil loss.Research findings indicate that the disturbed regions encompassing core project area, material storage area, and transportation route area of the water diversion project constituted 85.29%of the total project area, contributing to 92.57%of the overall soil loss. This identifies these zones as pivotal for implementing water and soil conservation practices.Through strategic engineering, vegetation, and interim interventions, soil loss in the project area decreased to 39.69%under the most adverse conditions. The research outcomes offer scientific insights for guiding future efforts in the measure allocation for prevention and control of soil erosion and soil and water conservation in similar projects.
