Informatization and Gender Wage Gap——Empirical Evidence from China
Based on the China Migrants Dynamic Survey(CMDS)and urban data from 2011 to 2018,this paper analyzes the impact of informatization on gender wage gap.We find that informatization has significantly widened the gender wage gap at different skill levels. After using instrumental variables and the quasi-natural experiment of"Broadband China"to overcome the endogeneity is-sues,the conclusion is robust. We also found that the impact of informationization on the gender wage gap is heterogeneous across re-gions,central cities and city sizes.Hence,it is imperative to steer the transformative enhancements in production efficiency induced by the digital economy through institutional innovation, concurrently prioritizing income equity. This involves expediting the market-oriented overhaul of the labor force, guaranteeing parity in opportunities for women in the workforce to secure positions, advancing the equalization of information and digital elements, and broadening the reach of the"digital dividend"to encompass a more exten-sive array of societal segments.
