Digital Economy,Capital Allocation and Regional Carbon Emission Reduction
This paper constructs a digital economy development index system at the provincial level in China from two dimensions:"digital infrastructure"and"digital industry development".Based on the perspective of capital allocation and the panel data of 30 Chinese prov-inces from 2009 to 2020,the relationship between digital economy development and carbon emission reduction and the transmission mech-anism of capital allocation between industries, between rural and urban areas, and within the non-agricultural sectors are empirically ex-amined,and the heterogeneity in carbon reduction effects and transmission mechanisms of different dimensions of the digital economy is further discussed. This paper finds that the digital economy development has a carbon reduction effect and this effect is stronger in high-carbon provinces. From the perspective of function channels, the digital economy development effectively inhibits carbon emissions through the optimization of capital allocation between industries, between rural and urban areas and within the non-agricultural sectors. This conclusion applies to all dimensions of the digital economy, but the enabling effect of"digital infrastructure"on carbon emission re-duction is more obvious.Accordingly, policy recommendations are proposed in terms of grasping the opportunities for carbon reduction in the digital economy, reshaping the new order of inter-industry factor interaction, and actively promoting the construction of new digital in-frastructure.
