Bank-Enterprise Proximity,Digital Finance and Corporate Digital Transformation
Corporate digital transformation is a fundamental driver of the deepening digital economy and a key task for fostering high-quality economic growth in the new era. This study employs a novel topic measurement model-Latent Dirichlet Allocation(LDA)—to calculate digital transformation indicators and examines the impact of physical distance between banks and enterprises on their digital transformation. The findings reveal that enterprises located farther from banks exhibit a higher degree of digital transforma-tion,with this positive effect being particularly significant among distant firms,high-tech enterprises, those with lower cash flow, and smaller businesses.Mechanism analysis shows that the bank-enterprise distance drives corporate digital transformation by facilitat-ing the expansion of digital finance adoption. These findings provide new insights and empirical evidence on how enterprises respond to traditional financial access barriers in their strategic choices. This suggests that the government should increase investment in digi-tal infrastructure in remote areas, especially those with limited banking services,to better promote technological innovation and digi-tal transformation among enterprises.
