Research on friction and wear properties of novel WC/Al0.5CoCrFeNiTi0.5 cemented carbide fabricated by hot pressing sintering
To suppress the grain growth of traditional WC har alloys during the sintering process and improve their service life, this study used Al0.5CoCrFeNiTi0.5 high-entropy alloy as the binder to fabricate a novel WC/Al0.5CoCrFeNiTi0.5 cemented carbide with binder contents of 17wt.%,20wt.%and 25wt.%through hot pressing sintering without adding grain growth inhibitors.WC/20wt.%Co was prepared using the same process as a control sample. The microstructure, mechanical properties, and friction and wear properties at room temperature and 800 ℃ were studied. The results show that ultrafine grain WC/Al0.5CoCrFeNiTi0.5 cemented carbide can be obtained by using Al0.5CoCrFeNiTi0.5 as binder without adding grain growth inhibitiors.WC/20wt.%Al0.5CoCrFeNiTi0.5 cemented carbide exhibits the best comprehensive mechanical properties, with a hardness of(2 389±12)HV30 and a fracture toughness of(15.95±0.5)MPa·m12,both superior to WC/20wt.%Co cemented carbide prepared by the same process. At room temperature,WC/17wt.%Al0.5CoCrFeNiTi0.5 cemented carbide shows the lowest wear rate and the best wear resistance. As the binder content increases, the wear resistance gradually decreases. The wear mechanism of WC/Al0.5CoCrFeNiTi0.5 cemented carbide at room temperature is mainly abrasive wear.Under the high temperature condition of 800 ℃,WC/20wt.%Al0.5CoCrFeNiTi0.5 cemented carbide exhibits the lowest wear rate, with wear mechanism including abrasive wear, oxidation wear and adhesive wear. Moreover,at room temperature and below 800 ℃,the wear rate of WC/Al0.5CoCrFeNiTi0.5 cemented carbide is lower than that of WC/20wt.%Co cemented carbide prepared by the same process.
