Studying the reports on the"two roads"spirit in Xinhua Daily Telegraph from 2021 to 2023,this paper employs the transitivity system in systemic functional linguistics to analyze the social image of the"two roads"spirit constructed in the news.Relational processes in the news reveal the nature of the"two roads"spirit;typical"two roads"characters are portrayed through material processes and behavioral processes combined to illustrate the manifestation of the"two roads"spirit,and circumstances are used to present its far-reaching influence in Xizang.The news reports achieve process intensification through metaphors of transitivity and enhance their readability while verbal processes combined with relational processes can make the news read less homiletic.
