Research and Explanation on Seven Colloquial Words in The Government Archives of Nanbu County in the Qing Dynasty
The Government Archives of Nanbu County in the Qing Dynasty is the most complete and systematic archives of local political power at the county level of the Qing Dynasty in China,but most of its content are handwritten and there are numerous colloquial words,which courses certain troubles to the reading,sorting and researching of the archives.During the Daoguang period,there were the following seven colloquial words,"Ya Tou Qian"(压头钱)"Er Bi"(二比)"Bao Shou"(抱首)"Da Lun Kan"(大仑坎)"Tou Qi"(投契)"Da"(达)and"Shun Shan Tian"(顺山田),whose meanings were difficult to understand or easy to misunderstand.According to the material context,combined with authoritative dictionaries and handed down literature,"Ya Tou Qian"means"de-posit";"Er Bi"means"each other;both sides";"Bao Shou"is the same as"Bao Gao(抱告)",means"the sub-ject sends a person who is closely related to him to act for him in litigation";"Da Lun Kan"means"land with raised and terraced terrain";"Tou Qi"means"to pay deed tax to the government";"Da"is the same as"Da(搭)",means"associated";"Shun Shan Tian"means"farmland adjacent to and in the same direction as the hillside".
