Research on the Types and Characteristics of Commercial Space in Longxikou Ancient Town from the Perspective of Trade and Commerce Culture
Longxikou Ancient Town is located in the ethnic minority gathering area of the Wushui River basin.. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, there were several waves of immigration, leaving local architecture influenced by diverse cultures, particularly by the commercial culture , thereby producing an ancient town mainly inhabited by the Han population, together with other ethnic minorities like Dong and Miao. Starting with the perspective of trade and commerce culture, this paper displayed the trade-induced commercial environment and types of commercial activities in this ancient town and, after categorizing the commercial space types as trade, production, serving, gathering, cultural and transportation, analyzed the characteristics of the commercial space with different functions. After that, more commercial space features were summarized. This paper aims to lay a foundation for the protection and development of traditional ancient towns of the trade and commerce type.
