Research on Spatial Reconstruction Strategies of Industrial Heritages from the Perspective of Morphology—A Case Study of the Fifth National Cotton Textile Mill in the Textile Town of Xi'an
Xi'an used to be an important textile industry base in Northwest China. However,as the city continually develops and the policies change, the plants used for industrial production have gradually decayed into an industrial heritage. This paper studied the status of the industrial heritage of the Fifth National Cotton Textile Mill in the Textile Town of Xi'an,and tried to explore the value of industrial heritages for urban development and surrounding communities through the case study. That is,the reconstruction of the industrial heritage space functions as a means to realize the protection and utilization of this space, imbuing these historical plants with new use functions while retaining collective memories of the city. This paper first focused on the difficulties the fifth National Cotton Textile Mill faces in future development, summed up the core elements of this industrial heritage, and determined the positioning of future planning and design philosophy of achieving industrial upgrading through enhancing implanted functions. It then employed the renewal methods and strategies from the perspective of morphology to discuss how the original spatial texture and architectural style of the mill can be maintained while protecting and utilizing this heritage with the goal to achieve the sustainable development of the industrial heritage in harmony with the city in the future.
