The Digital Production Practice Research of Silver-Haired Internet Celebrities
In recent years, there has been a surge in scholarly interest regarding the examination of urban spatiality and citizen visibility within media landscapes.A prominent example is the phenomenon of various cities achieving national prominence as hubs for internet celebrity culture.Fundamentally, this trend involves the amplification of serendipitous discoveries made by individual netizens into media spectacles through the utilization of new media platforms, thereby catalyzing the dissemination of urban imagery. However, scholarly attention has predominantly centered on youthful demographics, neglecting the substantial elderly populace residing within urban contexts. With the rapid acceleration of societal digitization and smartification, the active aging of urban elderly populations is intricately linked with media literacy, continuously generating narratives of urban spaces and texts of urban life for a distinct demographic group. This paper focuses on actively digital-inclusive individuals among the elderly population-silver-haired internet celebrities.Through an ethnographic examination of online communities,it is discovered that the digital production mechanisms of silver-haired internet celebrities encompass three main modes:independent creative production involving individual exploration and technical support from family and other community forces, family workshop-style production characterized by intergenerational collaboration and division of labor between elders and juniors, and commercially operated production facilitated by MCN agencies or other commercial entities in collaboration with silver-haired internet celebrities. The digital production practices of silver-haired internet celebrities yield positive effects, where economic benefits from monetizing traffic contribute to improving the quality of elderly life, significantly enhancing individual values, dignity, and self-efficacy,continually expanding social relationships, and reshaping the social spaces of the subjects. However,it is noteworthy that these individuals simultaneously face potential risks such as laborization of digital production and exposure of privacy.
