Traditional settlements represent a cultural legacy shaped by historical evolution, distinguished by their unique spatial forms. This study focuses on the traditional settlements of the Jinzhong region, examining their spatial components and the dynamics of their interactions.Through a typological research approach, settlement samples in Jinzhong are graded and categorized.By exploring four key dimensions—"natural environment","transportation","shared facilities",and"residential areas and unused land"—the study delves into the typological patterns of spatial evolution in these traditional settlements. The findings reveal that while settlement spatial forms are influenced by multiple factors, the natural environment, transportation routes, and the locations of temples emerge as the most decisive elements.Building on these conclusions, the study outlines the mechanisms through which these three critical spatial components exert their influence. It seeks to provide a theoretical foundation and fresh perspectives for the comprehensive preservation of traditional settlements,as well as for the planning and development of contemporary ones.
