Analytical investigation of adverse event profiles associated with the meningitis vaccines based on CODAE method
This study aims to analyze and evaluate adverse event(AE)associated with five licensed meningitis vaccines(Menactra,Menveo,MenQuadfi,Trumenba and Bexsero)based on data from vaccine adverse event reporting system(VAERS).As of March 31,2023,the AE data associated Menactra,Menveo,MenQuadfi,Trumenba, and Bexsero were retrieved from VAERS database respectively.A total of 94 statistically significant adverse events were identified using the combinatorial ontology-based detection of vaccine adverse events method(CODAE),including 23 serious adverse events.By mapping out the ontology-based AE profiles,we showed that these significant AEs were clustered in the behavioral and neurological conditions. In addition,a statistical analysis with detailed information in death case reports was used to ascer-tain the major variables that might affect the occurrence of death AE.We found that variables such as the age of the vacci-nated person had a certain impact on the occurrence of death. However, the available data was relatively limited, and the relevant results needed further verification. The analysis and evaluation of adverse events indicated that the five currently marketed meningitis vaccines were relatively safe. The exact relationship between specific serious adverse events,vaccina-tion,and the condition of the vaccinated person deserved further in-depth research in future work.
