The Development and Influence of Woodblock Printing Industry in Shandong Canal Cities during the Ming and Qing Dynasties
During the Ming and Qing dynasties, the woodblock printing industry in Shandong canal cities saw significant development compared to previous periods. In the Ming dynasty, the number of privately owned woodblock printing shops in Shandong canal cities exceeded that of official ones, and some cities saw the emergence of commercial printing workshops, although they were not large in scale and were relatively few in number.Compared with the Ming Dynasty, the woodblock printing industry in Shandong Canal City in the Qing Dynasty has been further developed. Not only did many well-known printing families emerge, but the number of workshop-style printing shops, represented by the four major bookstores in Liaocheng, also noticeably increased. The emergence of this phenomenon is not accidental, that is,the prosperity of the commodity economy in the canal region, the prosperity of the imperial examination system and the rise of civil culture, jointly promoted the development of the canal city's book carving industry. The prosperity of the woodblock printing industry has also had an important and far-reaching impact on the regional society.A large number of printed books entered the market and circulated, which promoted the social and economic development of the Canal region, which is not only played an important role in preserving and disseminating culture, but also met the spiritual and cultural needs of the citizens.
