The"temple syntax"(grammaire du temple),a term used in modern Egyptology to describe the rules of temple decoration and design,has been a key concept in the study of ancient Egyptian temples since its introduction in the 1960s.Encompassing everything from the architectural layout of symmetry to the spelling of words related to the theology of individual temples,"temple syntax"addresses all aspects of ancient Egyptian temple design.Although expressions of an Egyptian ideal temple appear in contemporary ancient texts,no specific textual interpretation of the"temple syntax"has been discovered.Egyptologists are still in the process of defining and studying the"temple syntax",but the existing relevant knowledge already allows for further discussion and re-evaluation of some prevailing theories and viewpoints.
