Investigation of clay damage characteristics with effect of loading rates considered
The study of the strength and deformation characteristics of clay is the foundation of construction design for deep foun-dation pits and mines.Revealing the strength and damage characteristics of clay corresponding to different consolidation pressures and loading rates can help better serve the construction design of underground structures. This research conducts triaxial tests on clay samples with different consolidation pressures and loading rates to analyze the stress-strain curve of clay and the influence of two factors(consolidation pressure and loading rate)on clay strength. The CT scan of the damaged sample reveals the distribution of internal cracks and the reason for the bulging appearance of the triaxial compression sample.Based on the experiment and as-suming that the strength of clay follows a Weibull distribution, the influence of loading rate on strength parameters is introduced, and a clay damage constitutive model considering the effect of loading rate is obtained.
