Integrated optimization of stop planning and timetabling for railway container trains under passenger transport mode
The railway container system under passenger transport mode could significantly improve the efficiency of railway container transportation and enhance the competitiveness of railways in the high value-added freight transport market in China. In this system, the stop plan and timetable of container trains were the critical parts of the train transportation organization plan. The former determined the stop patterns of each train, while the latter specified the departure and arrival time of each train at each station. The two plans interacted with each other and jointly determined the service quality. Therefore,to improve the efficiency of transportation organization planning,it was necessary to collaboratively optimize the stop planning and timetabling for container trains under passenger transport mode considering different operation zones in the railway corridor environment. On the premise of meeting the requirements of container demands and train capacity, the specific container-to-train assignment was considered, and the train stop plan constraints were embedded into the train timetabling process,in order to make the train stop plan consistent with the container distributions, and simultaneously ensure that the container loading and unloading operations can be completed within the dwell time at stations. With the objective of minimizing the total train dwell time, the mixed-integer linear programming model was formulated by comprehensively considering the constraints of the transit period, the allocation of arrival-departure tracks, the train tracking interval time and the train dwell time. The CPLEX solver was adopted to produce the solutions. The numerical experiments were implemented on a real-world railway corridor to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. The results show that the new container system can give full play to the advantages of network transportation, and has the characteristics of high train frequency, large number of transported containers and short transit period, while sacrificing only a portion of the train capacity utilization rate.
