Protection and Renewal of Changmen Historical and Cultural Block Under Guidance of Urban Catalyst Theory
In the context of rapid urbanization, the vitality of tra-ditional neighborhoods is insufficient and the value of cultural heritage urgently needs to be improved urgently. The Changmen historical and cultural block was once the most prosperous commercial area in Suzhou City, but now there are shortcomings in the continuation of the style and historical context of the district. To reproduce the prosperity of the past, the urban catalyst theory is applied to the protection and renewal of the Changmen historical and cultural block in Suzhou. Through three steps of selecting catalyst elements, activating catalyst elements, and guiding catalyst elements, the historical district is revitalized in a sustainable way, so as to achieve small-scale and progressive diversified organic renewal.
