The development process of Dongshan western-style residential area in Guangzhou in modern period included three stages of led by the Western church,by overseas Chinese,and by the municipal government. Comparing the area with that of other modern Chinese cities in which ports have been opened,the characteristics of Dongshan area can be summarised,to provide references for its protection and research.
