Paradigm of Building Information Processing in the Context of Digital Technology
In architectural design assisted by digital technology,architectural information is processed through digital logic.However,a difference exists between the digital logic originating from computer science and the thought logic stemming from architecture,potentially leading to adverse effects on the design.This difference is rooted in the differences in knowledge and methodologies between the two fields.To clarify the possibilities for their collaboration,a framework is constructed from an information processing perspective.Following this framework,it categorizes major historical outcomes into four information processing paradigms:symbolic com-putation,graphic manipulation,model parametric con-trol,and data-driven approaches.It analyzes the types of information and methods of processing within each paradigm and provides a generalized review of various application methods.Finally,through an overarching analysis,it preliminarily proposes the value and signifi-cance of this framework for technological applications and research.
